Provisional Licence

Before you can start lessons, or take your Theory Test, you will need to obtain your provisional licence, which you can apply for once you turn 17 years of age.  You can get the forms from a post office or you can apply online using the following link:

Theory Test
The Theory Test is in 2 sections.

Part 1 is the question part, where you will be given 50 questions, all multiple choice, in which you will need to get 43 or more correct to pass.

Part 2 is the Hazzard Perception section, where you will see 14 driving clips on screen, and you will have to click the mouse button when you see a developing hazzard.  You will need to score 44 or more to pass.

Both Parts 1 and 2 have to be passed at the same test.

I have DVDs and books which I loan out to pupils to help with your Theory Test.

The Car Practical Driving Test
After passing your Theory Test, and when you driving has reached the required standard, you will be advised to book your Practical Test.

The driving test is straightforward and has been designed to see if you:
  • can drive safely in different road and traffic conditions
  • know The Highway Code and can show this through your driving ability

So as long as you show the standard required, you'll pass your driving test. There are no pass or fail quotas.
